Georgia plans to open a new economic office in Qingdao, China, next year to get ahead in a city that is growing fast but remains off the beaten path for the state's competitors. Gov. Nathan Deal announced the new office during a stop in Beijing, where Georgia opened its first trade and investment outpost in 2008. Later in the trip, Mr. Deal's delegation visited Qingdao, a port city in eastern China's Shandong province.

Economic development group Greater MSP and the Minnesota Trade Office announced in Shanghai they will open a joint office in that Chinese city to help Minnesota companies export their products and services to China in 2012. The announcement was made during a 10-day trade mission to China, which is being led by Gov. Mark Dayton and includes about 40 Minnesota business leaders.

The police department of Alhambra, a city in Southern California, is using Weibo, a Chinese micro blogging site similar to Twitter, as an outreach tool for its Chinese residents. It has already garnered more than 27,000 followers. The Alhambra Police Department (APD) is the first law enforcement agency in US to launch its own Weibo account. More than half of Alhambra's 85,000 residents are Asian, and about three quarters of them are Chinese, according to recent census date.

A senior-level trade delegation from the China Foreign Trade Center visited the San Francisco area to encourage American companies to participate in the 116th China Import and Export Fair, one of the world's top trade fairs. Held biannually in Guangzhou, China, the Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is one of the best platforms for overseas businessmen to purchase Chinese products, said Wang Runsheng, president of China Foreign Trade Center (CFTC).

Danies Wang, chairman of California-based bio-tech company E-World USA Holdings, has donated $50,000 to the Yunnan earthquake relief effort through China's Consulate General in Los Angeless. Congresswoman Judy Chu, California state controller John Chiang, California congressman Ed Chau and China's Consu lGeneral in Los Angeles Liu Jian were on hand for the ceremony on Aug 15. Born in Anhui province,Wang moved to Los Angeles in 1997. Hisbio-tech company E-World USA Holdings was established in 2007.

China is willing to export technology and equipment to the United States and take part in its upgrading of transport infrastructure, Premier Li Keqiang said on Saturday, when meeting a visiting US delegation. "China has made great progress in the construction of transport infrastructure...while continuing to strengthen domestic facilities, we will promote advanced technologies and equipment such as high-speed rail to international market,"Li told Bill Shuster, chairman of the US House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee who led the delegation.

US e-ecommerce giant Amazon will set up operations in Shanghai's free trade zone and also signed an agreement to give Chinese customers access to products from its global supply chain. "Amazon also will open a logistics warehouse to expand exports of goods from China," Shanghai municipal authorities said in a statement. Amazon originally entered China in 2004 by acquiring shopping website Joyo.com, and renamed it as Amazon.cn in 2007.
