The delegation visited New York and Chicago to learn how to put on Broadway shows. It also visited the Chicago Opera House, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Oriental Theater. The visit was intended to expand cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China and to expand the market for Chinese culture.

A group of 37 students from the the People's Republic of China will arrive in Missouri in mid-June to take part in a youth leadership program that has produced prominent leaders for more than 70 years. The American Legion Missouri Boys State and the American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State will host a delegation of Chinese students at the Central Missouri University (UCM) in Warrensburg, Missouri. This international component to the Missouri Boys State and Missouri Girls State programs is called the US-China Youth Leadership Exchange. It is led by the Midwest US China Association.

Mayor Michael Gin, Redondo Beach's first Chinese American mayor, visited Zhangjiagang to discuss student exchanges. He was greeted by Zhangjiagang Party Secretary Huang Qin. The two cities enjoy a sister cities relationship.

Lee met with the Vice President of China, Li Yuanchao, visited the Great Wall, spoke with students at Tsinghua University, lobbied Southern China Airlines to offer a direct Guangzhou - San Francisco flight, and visited his ancestral village.

Peter Carlisle visited Shanghai. The Shanghai Overseas Chinese Affairs Office held a reception to welcome the delegation. Carlisle's trip to Shanghai was part of his visit to Asia, which includes Chongqing, Qinhuangdao, Seoul, Incheon, etc. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the sister cities relationship with Shanghai as well as economic cooperation.

It was Gary Locke's first visit to Shanghai after he became the U.S. Ambassador to China. In this two-day visit, Locke visited the Shanghai U.S. Consulate, Jinzhou Elementary School, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and a Buick dealer's showroom.

Verveer's visit in Shanghai lasted two days. She had a meeting with representatives from local women organizations and commercial organizations at the U.S. Shanghai Consulate and visited the Xintu Community Health Committee. Verveer also met with local reports to discuss women's contribution to global economic affairs.
Zukunft will visit the Shanghai Frontier Corps of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force to discuss cooperation in law enforcement and other exchanges.

Draper met with disabled children and their parents in the convalescent hospital. She talked about her book Out of My Mind, which was just translated into Chinese, and shared her parenting experience of how to encourage and educate disabled children.

Elain Chao and her family visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University and discussed future collaboration issues between SJTU and Harvard University. They also shared opinions and thoughts on higher education and international communications.
