A coaching education alliance between the Pac-12 Conference, the University of Utah, Arizona State University, the Federation University Sports China (FUSC), and the Chinese Scholarship Council is kicking off this week on the campuses of Utah and Arizona State, the Pac-12 announced today. Over the next three months, coaches from both universities will train 200 Chinese coaches on techniques in men and women’s basketball, track & field, swimming, and cheerleading.

The Cupertino City Council voted unanimously to establish “friendship city relationships” with six different Chinese cities. Cupertino’s new municipal pals include Taipei in the Republic of China, and Nanjing, Changzhou, Chengdu, Hefei and Taizhou, all in the People’s Republic of China.

China and the United States plan to hold a second set of talks later this year to discuss how their militaries operate in space. While representatives from the U.S. and China have met previously to talk about civil uses of space, the two sides met for a separate discussion of military space topics for the first time in May.

The American Federation of Arts (AFA), Asia Society, the Chinese Museums Association, and the Nanjing Museum are pleased to announce the U.S.-China Museum Summit will take place in New York City from September 25 to 28, 2016, bringing together museum directors and cultural leaders from both countries. Participants will explore opportunities for cultural exchange, develop tangible plans for ongoing institutional collaborations, and build connections with their peers.

Fall semester is well under way, and The College of Idaho campus is as vibrant and culturally diverse as ever. The C of I is home to 71 international students representing 49 countries this year, but for the first time, three of those students are part of a direct exchange program.

A group of student delegates from a school in Beijing are staying with host families from Freedom High school this week to learn about American life and education. For about eight years, Freedom has partnered with the school for an exchange program. Each fall a group of Chinese students and teachers visit the Chantilly school and each spring Freedom students and teachers visit the Beijing school.

A group of Mt. Blue High School students could soon have the opportunity to take a week-long trip to China after receiving an invitation from a Beijing school that the district has contact with through its international students program. The trip was initially scheduled for Nov. 5; however, it has been delayed until the spring so students will have enough time to obtain visas and passports. A group of about 15 students expressed interest in going, and a willingness to pay the $2,000 necessary to cover travel expenses.

United States Ambassador to China, Max Baucus, officially opened the new Beijing American Center at a formal ribbon cutting ceremony at the U.S. Embassy. The new Center is the home of cultural activities, library resources and a source for information about exchange opportunities between China and the United States.

This year, CUSEF invited 12 delegates from CAP and other government officials to a three day visit to Beijing. The leader of the delegation, Mr. John Podesta is the founder of CAP, former chief of staff for President Bill Clinton and is now the Chairman of the Hilary Clinton presidential campaign. He brought with him other notable delegates such as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and former US Special Envoy for Climate Change Mr. Todd Stern. This timely and intensive visit was particularly of great interest to China as the US general election began to take off.

Hong Kong will usher a group of 97 Lincoln High School students into a world few of them have experienced. The visit to Hong Kong is the first leg of a trip that will include a seven-day tour of China as guests of the government. President Xi Jinping invited the students to China during his visit to Tacoma in September 2015.
