Cupertino gains six Chinese friendship cities

The Cupertino City Council voted unanimously to establish “friendship city relationships” with six different Chinese cities. Cupertino’s new municipal pals include Taipei in the Republic of China, and Nanjing, Changzhou, Chengdu, Hefei and Taizhou, all in the People’s Republic of China.
Outcomes:
Friendship city relationships are designed to foster global communication and student and cultural exchanges, among other benefits. Once the council approves the friendship, the city can issue a letter of intent to begin exchange programs between Cupertino and its friendship cities. During the meeting, representatives from each of the cities gave a brief presentation to the city council about why their city is a good friendship match for Cupertino.
