High-ranking officials of China and the United States will hold their annual dialogue and consultation next week in Beijing, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman announced on Wednesday. Hong Lei told a daily press briefing that the two sides have decided that the sixth China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) and the fifth China-U.S. High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) will be held on July 9 and 10.

Iowa beef producers Roger Brummett, Bedford and Dean Black, Somers, represented the Iowa Beef Industry Council on the mission to Shanghai to investigate the beef market opportunities. “We visited with high Chinese meat traders and staff of the U.S. Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) to learn about the potential for U.S. beef exports,” said Brummett, Chair of the Iowa Beef Industry Council.

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad today announced he will lead a trade delegation, including four governors, to China in mid-April. This brief trip to China was at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and will include meetings with senior government officials, current and potential business partners, a U.S. – China Governors Forum and celebration events to recognize Iowa’s 30th anniversary of a sister state with the Chinese province of Hebei.

Visiting farmers’ markets, exploring farming practices and interacting with other cultures are just some of the activities 12 Iowa high school students are looking forward to during their summer trip to China. The trip is part of a program designed to help Iowa youth gain the necessary international knowledge and skills to meet the demands of the new global economy.

120 Chinese performers from 15 different provinces were brought to the Smithsonian to demonstrate and to share their traditions with our public. Participants and performances are scattered throughout the festival for visitors to discover as they journey through the various tents. There are musical performances in the Moonrise Pavilion, cooking demonstrations in the Five Spice tent, and discussions in the Tea House Commons stage. There are also Chinese language lessons and martial arts demonstrations, all organized so visitors can interact and learn from the Chinese participants.

In order to position California for growing share of China’s massive foreign investment pool and bolstering California-China trade, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., the Bay Area Council and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) opened the California-China Office of Trade and Investment in Shanghai.The privately-funded office will be staffed and operated by the Bay Area Council. It will provide California with a valuable and necessary portal for attracting Chinese investment and expanding trade.

The United States' new ambassador to China, former Democratic Senator Max Baucus of Montana, focused on trade issues during the 20-minute speech before several hundred people in an upscale hotel, saying his priorities included sealing an investment treaty between the two countries. One issue discussed in the speech was climate change as the two countries are the world's biggest emitters of carbon and together account for 40 percent of the world's carbon dioxide emissions.

The Virginia Governor is leading a trade mission to China in October to expand trade and investment ties with China in order to create jobs and grow and diversify the economy. "We hope to be signing some deals. Our economic development office has been working hard," McAuliffe told China Daily in an interview on June 5 in Herndon, Virginia, where some 100 visiting entrepreneurs from small and medium-sized Chinese firms were meeting local counterparts for possible partnerships. China is already the largest customer of Virginia's agricultural and forestry products.
