The Davis Chinese Film Festival will kick off on Sept 27 at the Modavi Center of the University of California, Davis. This event has already been recognized by the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco as part of the Cross the Pacific-China Art Festival, marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the US, according to Xiao Xiayong, Chinese culture counselor in San Francisco. "This festival's aim is to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between people of China and the US," Xiayong told China Daily.

Thanks to the EB-5 money-for-visa program, many wealthy Chinese investors are helping revive one of San Francisco's most ambitious development projects, a project that will help lift one of the city's worst neighborhoods out of poverty. The $8 billion, 775-acre Shipyards project in San Francisco's southeastern impoverished black neighborhoods of Hunters Point and Candlestick Point lay dormant for years because of lack of funding. The project is expected to extend over 20 years and raise about $200 million in the first two years through the EB-5 program.

Priceline Group Inc's $500 million investment in the Chinese online travel firm Ctrip.com International Ltd fortifies an existing bond between the two companies and gives "great potential" for future cooperation, according to Priceline's President Darren Huston. The deal between Priceline and Ctrip will give customers worldwide access to a pool of more than 600,000 travel accommodations - upward of 100,000 of which are located in the greater China Region.

(CUCBM) and US-based Far East Energy Corp. last week signed a contract for joint exploration of coalbed methane (CBM) resources in the Enhong and Laochang areas of southwest China's Yunnan Province.The CBM contract covers a 1,072 square km area in Qujing city and is the first of its kind in Yunnan cooperation with foreign partners, Xinhua news agency reported.
