Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter visited China to promote opportunities for investment, to promote Philadelphia as an international city, and to strengthen the relationship between key Philadelphia institutions and their Chinese counterparts.
Mayor Nutter visited Tianjin, Philadelphia's sister city and a Chinese hub for clean energy technology. Nutter also met with senior executives from Air China to discuss potential opportunities for a direct flight between Philadelphia and China.

Linden Mayor Gerbounka visited Tongchuan, Shaanxi to discuss economic partnership possibilities between the two sister cities. Mayor Gerbounka touts Linden's proximity to Manhattan, Ports Elizabeth, and Newark and Linden's existing industrial companies in his speech. Tongchuan is known for producing herbal medicine, which Gerbounka believes could pair nicely with opportunities at Merck, an international pharmaceutical company in Linden.
His visit to China was the start of a long enduring relationship that will carry on for several decades.

Four US Mayors visited China to get a deeper understanding of Chinese interest in the US market. They hoped to place their communities at the top of the list for consideration for North American expansion. The mayor visited seven Chinese cities - Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Bazhong, Nanchong, Langzhong.

Mike Bell, mayor of Toledo, Ohio visited China to build relationships with Chinese investors. Mayor Bell felt that the trip was extremely successful, as he and a team of businessmen formed great relationships with Chinese officials and businessmen in addition to closing a deal that will bring prosperity to Toledo. Mayor Bell believes that forming the relationship with the mayor of Qinhuangdao (Zhu Haowen) was critical because the two mayors working together from two different parts of the globe could pay off in the future.

Xi mentioned that he looks forward to making positive and pragmatic explorations with the U.S. to boost the sustained development of bilateral relations through his visit.

A Shanghai Christian delegation of six visited the US under invitation from the Episcopal Church. The delegation visited churches in Washington and New York. They also discussed the Christian church's development in Shanghai with the Episcopal Church.
