After going through a nationwide competition, 30 Asian American students including ethnic groups of Chinese, South Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Miao American, are about to start an internship in various US government branches under a program hosted by the International Leadership Foundation. The Public Affairs internship program of the International Leadership Foundation assigned the students to 12 federal government departments and offices for internships this year, including the departments of State, Defense, and Commerce.

China and the United States held in Beijing the first-ever vice-ministerial level talks on anti-terrorism cooperation. At the talks, Chinese and U.S. officials exchanged views on the current anti-terror situation and reached broad consensus on deepening cooperation between the two countries in the regard.

U.S. President Barack Obama told Chinese President Xi Jinping he wants U.S.-Chinese relations defined by more cooperation and a constructive management of differences during a phone call in which North Korea and Iran were discussed. Escalating tensions between China and some countries in the South China Sea and with Japan in the East China Sea, as well as U.S. charges over hacking and Internet spying, have provoked anger on both sides of the Pacific in recent months. A White House statement about the Obama-Xi conversation did not get into the details of U.S.-Chinese tensions.

It has been more than four centuries since Wu Cheng'en, a poet and novelist from the Ming Dynasty, wrote Journey to the West. Now AMC Networks Inc is reimagining the story for a new television martial arts drama. Badlands, which is a working title, is loosely based on the popular 16th century Chinese epic, which chronicles the travels of a Buddhist monk and his compatriots who endeavor to find a series of sacred texts. AMC Networks announced plans for the program to be broadcast on AMC, its cable and satellite channel.

China and the United States have agreed to increase cooperation on fighting terrorism, according to Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping. Cheng told reporters after meeting with his US counterpart, Tina Kaidanow, ambassador-at-large and coordinator for counterterrorism at the State Department, that the two countries share common interest and concerns in counterterrorism. He described the first round vice-ministerial level dialogue as an important sign for strengthening cooperation and building trust in the political arena.

More than 80 exhibitors from the global textile industry set up shop on at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. The occasion on Tuesday was the sixth installment of SPINEXPO New York, a textile industry event that brings together an international pool of buyers and sellers. Nine countries are represented at this year's show, which runs until Thursday, with more than three-quarters of the total group of exhibitors from the Greater China region.

To boost US tourism to one of China's most scenic areas, Anhui province, a Chinese tourist official was in Los Angeles on Monday to promote the area. Anhui, with a population of over 59 million, is an inland province in southeast China and stretches over the Yangtze and Huai rivers. It is best known for Mount Huangshan, a World Heritage site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and one of China's major tourist destinations.

Continuing its cultural exchange with the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond announced that it will feature a trove of national Chinese treasures in a new exhibit. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) will showcase nearly 200 pieces of artwork from the Palace Museum's collection in an exhibit called Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum.
