US Judge faults China-based drywall company for failing to appear in court for examination and imposes $55,000 in fines. Taishan Gypsum Co Ltd was fined $55,000 in penalties for refusing to participate in court proceedings over allegations that its product damaged homes where it was used. A judge with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana found Taishan Gypsum Co Ltd in contempt of the court, ruling that the company cannot conduct business in the US until it participates in litigation.

Chinese heavyweight boxing giant Taishan Dong won his professional debut match in the US by a knockout in San Francisco on July 18. In the first round, Taishan quickly went to work landing heavy and powerful punches on his opponent Alex Rozman, an Iowan from Davenport. Taishan won his first knockout in a record time of just five minutes.

Women leaders in politics, business, and design from the United States and China voiced their different opinions on how to empower women and move ahead in the workplace at a recent symposium held at the United Nations in New York. Most Chinese women said they didn't see a big difference in how men and women are treated in the workplace, while American women believe women are treated differently from men, revealing a cultural difference of opinion at the Love Together - Empowering Women Through Design 2014 symposium on July 18.

Officials from China’s Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University in Shaanxi province, and the University of California, Davis, today signed a memorandum of agreement that lays the groundwork for establishing the Sino-U.S. Joint Research Center for Food Safety in China. The signing ceremony was held in the city of Yingchuan, China, during a meeting between high-level officials of the U.S.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong have launched a people-to-people initiative aimed at enhancing understanding and engagement between the Chinese and American people through a variety of exchange programs. Clinton and Liu signed the initiative in a ceremony at the National Center for the Performing Arts near Beijing’s Tiananmen Square May 25. They were joined by more than 300 American and Chinese students, scholars, teachers, musicians and cultural representatives.
