Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Gen. Peter Pace arrived in Beijing for a four-day visit, which also includes a seminar at the PLA Academy of Military Sciences, and visits to military areas in Shenyang in Northeast China and Nanjing in East China. Pace also had discussions with vice-chairmen of the Central Military Commission General Cao Gangchuan and General Guo Boxiong.

Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, said Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the Supreme Court of the United States's visit to China will further promote exchanges and cooperation between the judiciary circles of the two countries. Luo said that so far in 2005, Sino-US relations have generally maintained a stable momentum of development. The two countries have maintained close high-level communications and contact.

The consensus was reached after talks between Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Chen Bingde and Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen in Beijing.

China and the United States traded trade shows this fall, with a display of American industry in Peking in November and a show of Chinese industry, culture, and arts traveling to three US cities from September to December.
The reciprocal shows are the result of the Sino-Us Trade Exhibitions Agreement, signed last May by then-Secretary of Commerce Juanita Kreps and Li Qiang, China's minister of foreign trade.

At a meeting at the White House, visiting Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and US Vice President Joe Biden discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues, including Biden's upcoming visit to China in early December and China's recently-announced agenda for deepening reforms.
Noting that China-US diplomatic ties were established shortly after the onset of China's reform and opening-up policy, Liu applauded the great progress made in the development of bilateral ties and tremendous changes that have occurred in China since then.
