Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi visited Memphis, Tennessee where she met with governor Phil Bredesen. Wu also visited the headquarters of the US FedEx Corporation in Memphis.

To further strengthen economic ties, a delegation of businessmen and government officials from China were invited to visit Memphis, Tennessee. Representatives heard presentations from local and state economic development officials, including ECD Commissioner Bill Hagerty.
With a Confucius Classroom, Pellissippi State Technical Community College (PSTCC) is now offering courses in Chinese language and culture. In Fall 2011, one teacher organized an Autumn Moon Festival featuring Chinese Dancing, Martial Arts, Food, and Music.

The delegation from University of California, Los Angeles visited Zhejiang University to discuss the development of ZJU-UCLA Joint Center for Medical Research and Education. On the next day, the UCLA delegation attended the 2010 Hangzhou International Medical Education Forum held by Zhejiang University.

Stephen J. Hadley commented on U.S.-China relations 30 years after the establishment of full diplomatic relations. He stressed the need to "change the way we think about U.S.-China relations," and argued that the two nations should collaborate with each other and with the rest of the world to solve the global challenges that threaten the interests of all states.

Visiting Chinese State Councillor Liu Yandong and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the launch of the China-US Women's Leadership Exchange and Dialogue (Women-LEAD), as part of the efforts to boost people-to-people exchange between the two countries. Women-LEAD will be jointly led by the Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues and the ACWF.

Army Corps of Engineers along with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency participated with members of China's People's Liberation Army in a disaster management exchange, Nov. 12-14 at Marine Corps Training Area-Bellows. The 2013 DME was a subject matter expert exchange focused on an international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation.

The U.S. ambassador to China says the two countries should not let disagreements prevent them from working together on a range of global issues. In a speech at China's elite Tsinghua University, U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman stressed the importance of the United States and China working together.
