In 1973, the Philadelphia Orchestra was invited by then US President Richard Nixon to go to China following his historic trip there a year earlier. Its performance in front of a fully packed audience at Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities was the first by an American orchestra since 1949 when the People's Republic of China was founded. The orchestra, which has since become well-known among the Chinese, has kept going back over the past decades.

US-China Student Summit is a two-day event that brought Chinese and US college students together for various activities, including travel to Chinese cities, speeches, campus visits to Chinese universities and small-group discussions. China's e-commerce giant Alibaba Group kicked off its 10-day international roadshow to pitch investors prior to its expected record-breaking initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange. Alibaba's founder and executive chairman Jack Ma reportedly met with several hundred investors at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, the roadshow's first stop before the company continues the tour in the US, Europe and Asia, including cities like Boston, Los Angeles, Singapore and London.

China is definitely not a market that most sports fans would associate with American football, but a dedicated group of US businessmen are trying to change that perception by helping bring a professional indoor football league to China. Judge, the founder of the Judge Group Inc, a global professional services firm based in the Philadelphia area, has partnered with former National Football League (NFL) quarterback Ron Jaworski and Super Bowl-winning coach Dick Vermeil, among others, to help bring football to fans in China.
