The United States and China build on Paris Agreement and strengthen climate change cooperation
As part of the 8th U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, the U.S.-China Joint Session on Climate Change was held as an opportunity to discuss key areas of cooperation and strengthen joint efforts on climate change. The dialogue was chaired by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang.
Outcomes:
The U.S. and China reaffirmed their commitment to join the Paris Agreement which combats global climate change. Both countries supported the adoption of an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly Resolution as a market based measure to address CO2 emissions from international aviation.
