Multilateral Exercise Phoenix Spirit Conducted in New Zealand

From August 12 to 17, 2013 China, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States conducted the multilateral Phoenix Spirit exercise on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. It was the first multilateral exercise involving all four nations.
Outcomes:
The exercise aimed to enhance cooperation and coordination between Australia, China, the United States and New Zealand in responding to natural disasters in the Asia Pacific. The exercise involves the sharing of the New Zealand Defense Force’s lessons learned from the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, as well as participating nations’ experiences in other recent natural disasters.
