US secretary of homeland security Jeh Johnson visits Beijing
Jeh Johnson, the Homeland Security secretary, attended ministry-level meetings in Beijing from to discuss a range of issues of mutual concern. He met Meng Jianzhu, secretary of the CPC's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission. The agenda covered counterterrorism, cyber security, global supply chain security, combating transnational crime and maritime law enforcement.
Outcomes:
The two sides reached an agreement to assist with the repatriation of criminal suspects and not to shelter fugitives. Wang Qishan, head of the Communist Party's anti-graft agency, will visit the United States in July to further address the issue of repatriating former Chinese officials wanted for corruption from US soil. The US-China anti-corruption cooperation is expected to cover cross-departmental efforts from the foreign ministry, transportation ministry, customs and aviation authorities, among many others.
