U.S.-China Disaster Management Exchange

The People's Liberation Army and the U.S. Army Pacific participated in a disaster management exchange in Beijing, Kunming, and Chengdu. The Chinese side was led by Deputy Chief of General Staff Qi Jianguo. The U.S. side was led by Major General Stephen Lyons, commander of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command.
Outcomes: 
One highlight of the exchange was a tabletop exercise designed by the PLA. The two sides sought to cooperate in providing assistance following an earthquake. Disaster management exchange visits began in 2005.
