Study Contemporary Chinese Art with FIU

Study contemporary chinese art with Florida International University. This unforgettable journey introduces students to the ancient civilization of China, as well as contemporary society and culture through field research and visual arts. This interdisciplinary program is designed to broaden students' horizons in global learning in the 21st century world. We will visit universities and interact with Chinese professors, artists and students. The museum and gallery visits will be enriched by special lectures and discussions with curators and artists. Strolling around the cities, villages and mingling with local people will be another highlight of the journey. The cultural richness of Kaifeng and the sounds and sights of Beijing and Shanghai will fundamentally change one's worldview and force one to question the issues of cultural identity, nationality, localization and globalization.
Outcomes:
Students will earn 6 credits taking classes in Special Topics in Art History and Contemporary Chinese Art. The program will visit the exciting cities of Beijing, Datong, Xi'an, Luoyang, Dengfeng (Shaolin Martial Art Chan Monastery), Zhujiajiao (a beautiful ancient water town, known as Venice in the East), and Shanghai. Students will have the opportunity to closely examine the cultural icons of China: the marvel of the Great Wall and the grandeur of the Terra Cotta Warriors, which became the symbols of ancient Chinese civilization. They will also have the opportunity to visit the Yungang Grottoes.
