Study Abroad at the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong Univeristy Joint Institute with Louisana State University
The UM-SJTU Joint Institute (JI) is an equal-partner institution cooperatively sponsored by the University of Michigan (UM) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). As a specially designated reform zone in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, JI has been given a high degree of autonomy to model itself after the University of Michigan. The unique and strategic characteristic of the JI is its global approach to structural and operational development. Over the past five years, the JI has developed an effective model for training globally astute, creative talents. In addition to its unique program curricula modeled after UM and an all-English learning environment, the JI students are exposed to an educational approach focused on holistic and rounded development of students’ abilities and character.
Outcomes:
Students may take courses in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering. Students are housed together with JI students in the Joint Institute Dormitory on Minhang Campus. Accommodation is either a double or triple shared room based on availability. Students are also encouraged to explore Shanghai and travel to other major cities.
