Senior CPC official meets U.S. think tank members
Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan met with a group of prominent U.S. politicians and scholars on Monday. The group, which is led by Brent Scowcroft and Joseph Nye, came to Beijing for the Second China-U.S. Policy Dialogue. Liu, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the latest meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama, saying it injected momentum into plans to establish a new type of major-country relations between the two countries. Liu said the China-U.S. seminar, organized by the Party School of the CPC Central Committee and the Aspen Strategy Group of the United States, played a positive role in increasing the exchanges between Chinese and U.S. think tanks, boosting mutually-beneficial cooperation for the two countries.
Outcomes:
Liu called on the seminar to increase the discussions that are forward-looking, constructive and open and offer robust support to the long-term development of China-U.S. relations. The China-U.S. Policy Dialogue is a non-official, non-profitable and open forum for Chinese and U.S. think tanks and experts to exchange views on China-U.S. relations and other issues of global significance. The first policy dialogue was held in Washington in June, 2013. The second dialogue is aimed to provide policy consultation for both countries' decision makers on building a new type of major-power relationship between China and the United States.
