Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports: Sports Envoys Kiesha Brown, Tamika Raymond Travel to China

WNBA players Tamika Raymond and Kiesha Brown traveled to Shenyang, China, as Sports Envoys of the U.S. Department of State and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). This is part of the Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative which seeks to use basketball as a tool for bringing people together and fostering understanding.
Outcomes: 
Raymond and Brown spoke to elementary to high school age girls from underserved areas about life skills, the importance of "health and wellness, leadership and teamwork, and using basketball as a universal language to bring people together." They also led several basketball clinics and discussed how Title IX, the U.S. law which established equal opportunity for men and women in academics and athletics, has empowered a new generation of women and girls through sports.
