Chinese navy in Hawaii for joint exercise

The Chinese fleet participating in the RIMPAC, talked with US naval officers during their visit to the Chinese fleet in Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. US Vice-Admiral Kenneth Floyd, commander of the US Third Fleet who also serves as this year's RIMPAC Combined Task Force Commander, met with Zhang Ronghua, captain of China's hospital ship Peace Ark in Pearl Harbor. The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) multinational naval exercise, which started in 1971, is the world's largest multinational maritime military exercise. A total of 23 nations will participate in this year's drill scheduled for July 9-30.
Outcomes:
The Chinese and American navies cooperate on rare occasions and they invariably practice interaction in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Military relations between Beijing and Washington also involve exchanging military officers for academic studies. China's Defense Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun stressed that China's participation in RIMPAC serves as an example that Beijing is interested in good military ties with the US, while certain politicians in Washington tend to exaggerate China’s military threat.
