One of the goals of the Committee on Scholarly Communication with the People's Republic of China (CSCPRC) is to gather and disseminate information on scientific and scholarly activities in China. The report gives a general overview of the ecosystems and the major human land use patterns in this region. This is followed by a review of the Chinese literature on these grasslands and a survey of the principle scientific institutions engaged in this research. The final section presents the perspectives of U.S.
