Mayor Michael Gin, Redondo Beach's first Chinese American mayor, visited Zhangjiagang to discuss student exchanges. He was greeted by Zhangjiagang Party Secretary Huang Qin. The two cities enjoy a sister cities relationship.
Outcomes: 
A plan for student exchanges was agreed on, and the city manager of Redondo, Bill Workman, oversaw the implementation.
