29 Chinese judges stayed at Emory University for a month to study about US legal principles and structure. Emory faculty taught them advocacy skills, criminal law, constitutional law, and about the U.S. Civil Right movement. They also met with U.S. judges and lawyers in formal and casual settings.

The US and Chinese navies conducted joint telecommunications and mobility exercises for the first time near Hawaii. Naval officers and men also visited U.S. naval ships, toured Honolulu, visited the USS Arizona, and spent leisure time with their American counterparts. This was part of the Chinese naval fleet's U.S. friendship visit.
