The Freeman Foundation hosted an exchange program that funds US students to China for 9 Oklahoma schools. 7 students got to take part in this program, and they visited Shanghai, Bejijing and Chengdu, and the exchange experience was well-acclaimed by studnets as inspiring and life-changing.

The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations implemented an exchange project that provides a forum for representatives of municipal governments to share experience in using e-government to communicate with citizens and coordinate delivery of services. The project took place in three stages: In the first stage, completed in July 2007, a delegation of four American specialists participated in workshops in Beijing, Hangzhou and Taichung with their professional counterparts.

Sam Adams said he will visit China with mayors of five other U.S. cities on the trip hosted by the National League of Cities. The delegation intended to talk with Chinese leaders about green practices and energy efficiency. They will visit Beijing, Shanghai, and Qingdao.

Mayor Michael Gin, Redondo Beach's first Chinese American mayor, visited Zhangjiagang to discuss student exchanges. He was greeted by Zhangjiagang Party Secretary Huang Qin. The two cities enjoy a sister cities relationship.
