Chinese Consul General to Chicago Zhao Weiping met with the Governor of Michigan Rick Snyder in Lansing. Snyder welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Michigan and hoped to deepen the exchanges and cooperation with China in the extensive fields of agriculture, education, and tourism.

The BOG 14 member delegation visited China from March 16 to 23, 2012. The group was led by UNC president Tom Ross and chairman of the board Hannah Gage.This delegation was chosen to travel to China on a mission that would improve understanding and collaboration between the two countries and foster a better understanding of China, especially of China’s higher education. The trip lasted for 10 days, covering 4 cities—Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Suzhou—providing three different modes of transportation: plane, high-speed train and bus.

The aim of the 10-day trip was to sustain a good economic relationship between the U.S. and Chinese governments. Walker met with Chinese provincial governors and representatives from China's water and wood sectors. He also visited Wisconsin businesses operating in China. They visited Beijing, Tianjin, Harbin, and Shanghai.

The visit included meetings with senior government officials, current and potential business partners, a U.S.-China Governors Forum, and celebration events to recognize Iowa’s 30th anniversary of a sister state with the Chinese province of Hebei. Three governors, Gov. Eddie Calvo (Guam), Gov. Bob McDonnell (Va.), and Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.) joined the trip as well.
