China and the United States held their first legal dialogue in Beijing, China. The dialogue was jointly sponsored by the office of China's central leading group for judicial reform and the U.S. Departments of Justice and Commerce. A total of 30 officials, judges and experts joined the dialogue. A second dialogue was agreed to take place in Washington, D.C. in 2017.

On Friday, August 5th, the first exchange of dancers from Qingdao, China will be jointly sponsored by the Long Beach-Qingdao Association and the Long Beach Ballet Academy. A delegation of young dancers, their teachers and some parents from Qingdao will spend a week studying ballet at the Long Beach Ballet Academy, including home stays with local families. Their studies will culminate in a performance at Lakewood High School Auditorium prior to a farewell dinner.

Monterey Park’s summer student exchange program is giving students from around the world a chance to learn about the American education system. The 10 day summer program began in August 1 and includes tours of East Los Angeles College, UCLA and attractions such as the Walk of Fame, Getty Museum and Disneyland. Angela Ma is a 16-year-old student from Kunming, China visiting the United States for the first time in her life. “I want to get to know the differences between the Chinese education system and the American one,” Ma said. “I am considering coming to the U.S.

This coming September 9 - 13, the Guangdong National Orchestra of China (GNOC) will make its U.S. debut in conjunction with the one-year anniversary of Chinese President Xi Jinping's West Coast visit. Building on the spirit of cultural exchange embodied in the U.S.-China Consultation on People-to-People Exchange program, the GNOC will perform two concerts in San Francisco as well as Seattle.

Fifteen students embarked on a journey to China with school staff to gain international business experience, reconnect with their Chinese counterparts and explore some of the country’s most famous sites.
The 12-day trip is part of an international exchange program called Junior Achievement Global Connection, sponsored by Junior Achievement of Southwest New England and United Technologies Corporation.

Students from Zhuhai City in China visited the Morris View Healthcare Center in Morris Plains through an organization called EduAcross which is sponsored by China's Zhuhai Broadcast Television Network, Zhuhai City, and its schools. The specific program is American Education Exploration, designed for Chinese children who are interested in learning about American culture and education and for those who plan to study in the U.S. in the future.

The College of Lake County in Grayslake hosted eight students and one professor from China's Xi'an International University as part of a three week long exchange program that began on July 18. The exchange marks the first visit to CLC by students from the university, a school that CLC has built close ties with over the past eight years. In 2012, Dr. Jerry Weber, CLC president, and Dr. William M. Griffin, chair of the Board of Trustees, traveled to XAIU to participate in the grand opening of the CLC-Xi'an American Culture Center.

On September 15-16, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council hosted its inaugural Future of Asia Conference at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, California. The event featured seventy speakers from all academic and professional backgrounds in engaging panel discussions that ranged from the future of China's rise to the emerging middle class in India. The highlight of the conference was a keynote speech by Admiral Harry Harris, Commander of the United States Pacific Command, who talked about the increasing importance of the Indo-Asia Pacific and its relations to U.S.

Niskayuna (New York) school officials are exploring a partnership with a private Chinese school that wants to model its curriculum on an American school as it grows to serve older students. Niskayuna Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra Jr. will travel to China later this fall to meet with leaders of Beijing-based Wisdom International Education Group, which runs private elementary Montessori schools in China. The Chinese school plans to expand from its current size, serving kindergarten through 6th-grade students, to include middle- and high-school grades.

A partnership has been announced between Airbnb, the worldwide accommodation platform, and the US State Department’s Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship Program, in order to enable more American students to study abroad in China. The financial commitment will support 10 students a year to study in the country through the scholarship program. This year, the Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship Program will award over 2,800 scholarships of up to $5,000 each for US undergraduate students to study abroad, or carry out an internship overseas.
