Tesla Starts Negotiations Over Shanghai Plant

Tesla Inc has announced that it has begun negotiations to set up a wholly owned manufacturing facility in Shanghai's free trade zone. The US firm is exploring the possibility of establishing a manufacturing facility in Shanghai to better serve the Chinese market.
Outcomes:
This plant would be a first as current rules state that foreign companies can only build in China if they set up a joint venture with a local Chinese partner. The plant would also help Tesla slash costs of transporting the cars from California to China.
